OVER THE YEARS

It all started in 1971 when a passionate group of parents came together to create something truly special—the Montessori Children's School in Westlake, Ohio. With just thirty-seven students, the seeds of a nurturing and vibrant learning community were planted. The 1970s quickly saw those seeds sprout, as the school's enrollment grew to over one hundred students by the end of the decade!

The 1980s were full of adventure and change. In 1981, MCS moved to Bay Village and became known as the Bay Village Montessori School. During this time, the school expanded, adding a third pre-primary class and a variety of enrichment programs. In 1987, the curriculum blossomed even further with the addition of Music, Art, Spanish, and Physical Education, providing students with a well-rounded educational experience.

The 1990s brought even more excitement! The Enrichment Care program was introduced, offering before and after school care for busy families. The school continued to grow, adding a Toddler Program and a fourth Pre-Primary classroom. Plus, MCS earned accreditation to open an Elementary classroom, welcoming students from first to fifth grades.

MCS made a grand return to Westlake in the 2000s, reclaiming its original name—Montessori Children's School. A new afternoon Pre-Primary class was added, and in 2008, the school opened a new building on campus, featuring three brand-new classrooms to support the growing community.

The 2010s saw MCS embracing nature and innovation. In 2014, a greenhouse was constructed, bringing Botany and Science curricula to life! Two years later, the installation of a unique and wonderful Natural Playscape added a touch of outdoor magic for the children.

In the 2020s, MCS continues to flourish! In 2021, the school revived the Lower Elementary Program, welcoming students into grades 1, 2, and 3. Then, in 2023, we took an exciting leap forward by purchasing the property next door, paving the way for our expansion project that will unfold in the coming years!
